The Dogs of the Bible & What They Teach Us #1
Dogs—our loyal, tail-wagging companions—are all over our homes, but did you know they’re in the Bible too? While the Bible doesn’t exactly paint dogs as fluffy best friends who steal our snacks, there’s still a lot we can learn from these four-legged creatures.
1. Dogs Were… Not Exactly Pampered Pets in Bible Times
Today, dogs have it made—special food, comfy beds, and entire Instagram accounts dedicated to them. But in Bible times? Not so much.
Most dogs in the Bible were scavengers. They roamed the streets, ate scraps, and were seen more as a nuisance than a pet. That’s why many references to dogs in scripture aren’t exactly flattering.
Example: “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.” – Proverbs 26:11
Yep. The Bible went there. If you’ve ever seen a dog do this… well, it’s not pretty. But the lesson is clear: don’t go back to bad habits that God has already freed you from.
